Road home PictureCHICAGO — On Thursday, State Senator Mike Porfirio joined fellow Senators Patrick Joyce, Paul Faraci, Meg Loughran Cappel, Michael Hastings and Michael Halpin for a visit to Rush University Medical Center’s Road Home Program, announcing a $1 million investment through the Rebuild Illinois Program administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

The grant will be used to expand services that provide critical mental health and transitional support to returning veterans and their families. The Road Home Program—nationally recognized for its innovative approach to treating post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and other challenges veterans face—offers specialized, no-cost care to military members and their loved ones.

“This investment reflects our commitment in Illinois to supporting and empowering the heroes that protect us,” said Porfirio (D-Lyons Township), a Navy veteran. “The Road Home Program is a pathway to empowering service members with renewed spirit, vision and drive as they contribute to their community and reunite with their families.”

The Rebuild Illinois Program, the largest capital plan in state history, targets investments in infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and community programs that strengthen Illinois’ future. This funding for the Road Home Program will help expand its reach and continue to address the pressing needs of veterans returning to civilian life.

“I am exceedingly encouraged by the work done here at the Road Home Program,” said Porfirio. “I am proud to invest in a program that offers innovative therapy techniques and draws in veterans from across the country to receive the care they need.”
